Main features of stainless steel clad plate welding

The welding characteristics of stainless steel clad plate

The welding characteristics of stainless steel clad plate

From a design point of view, the base layer of the stainless steel clad plate is mainly to ensure the strength, the cladding layer is mainly to ensure its corrosion resistance, and the intermediate layer added in the middle is only for the welding process. In order to ensure that the composite steel plate does not lose its original comprehensive performance, it is necessary to weld the base layer and the clad layer separately. In addition to the welding of the base layer and the cladding layer, there is also the problem of welding of the transition layer, which is the main feature of the welding of stainless steel clad plates. Transition welds should be adopted between the multi-layer weld and the base weld, and the junction of the multi-layer weld and the base metal. The welding of the transition layer between the base layer and the cladding is the key to the welding of stainless steel clad plates.

After the base layer is welded and before the transition layer and the cladding layer are welded, the base layer should generally be subjected to radiographic inspection. Excess defects are found and repaired immediately. After the repair is completed and the radiographic inspection is qualified, the surface of the base weld on the cladding side is polished and smooth. Generally, penetrant inspection should be performed. After the penetrant inspection is qualified, the transition layer and the clad layer are welded. After the transition layer and the cladding layer are welded, penetrant inspection should generally be carried out.
